Thanks!

Well, the workshops were (more or less) a (moderate) success!  Although we never managed to get the two parts of the Eyewriter Software to talk to one another, the problem-solving and creativity of the workshop participants carried through!

We had a fun time projecting on Rowe on Monday night... here are some of the pictures Sam Buell took (I'll see if the one Sam took of my Honda with "DAM" written in LEDs on the front came out).  Good times!

Get Ready, Guerillas! Workshop Updates

I just send this information out to the participants via email, but here's all that info again!  Again, if anyone plans on NOT attending, please let me know ASAP so I can inform a few other folks who might still be waiting in line. But otherwise, I'm really looking forward to see you all on Saturday! WOOT! :)

Eyewriter Workshop Update

Just a reminder that the GRL Eyewriter workshop is this coming Saturday, April 30th from 10 - 12 in the D+Arts Office in Storrs. The D+Arts room is in Storrs basically at the opposite corner of the building from the gallery. I've included a pretty hacker map, but it's well marked.

In the workshop I will be showing you how to download, install and use the Eyetracker and Eyedrawing software, so if you have a laptop, bring it along! (Note: I don't know how stable it is on the PC). Just so you know, however, I've had loads of trouble getting the Eyetracker and Eyedrawer to talk to one another, so part of this workshop may be spend brainstorming ways to get them to work together. I've had no luck hunting for a solution on line, but just keep in mind, this is the nature of open-source softwares.

The next part of the workshop will be spend actually hacking the PS3 Eye to get it to work with an adjustable lens and LED. Again, the WORKSHOP aspect will be stressed... we'll be figuring this out together! :)

It's not required, of course, but I STRONGLY encourage you to familarizie yourself with the Eyewriter resources online BEFORE attending the workshop:

LED Throwies/Electro-Graf Workshop Update

Just a reminder that the LED Throwies/Electro-Graf workshop is this coming Saturday, April 30th from 1 - 3 in the D+Arts Office in Storrs. The D+Arts room is in Storrs basically at the opposite corner of the building from the gallery. I've included a pretty hacker map, but it's well marked.

In the workshop I will be showing you how to put together an LED Throwie (with and without magnets) and then we will, as a group, trouble shoot and create an electro-Graf. Bring some sort of stencil (probably something somewhere between 8" x 8" and 30" x 30") and a can of spraypaint and a piece of foamcore, plywood, or similar solid board (you can be creative!) if you want to do your own! Otherwise, I will have one board, stencil and can of spraypaint to demonstrate. Since this is a true workshop, I haven't had a chance to do an electro-graf myself before (the throwies are another story) so we'll be figuring this out together! :) Also, if you want to experiment with LEDs on other materials (incorporating them into fabric, etc.) bring stuff along and we'll have time to experiment!

It's not required, of course, but I STRONGLY encourage you to familarizie yourself with the LED Throwie/Electrograf resources online BEFORE attending the workshop:

Projection Bombing/LASER TAG Workshop Group 1 and 2 Update

Just a reminder that the Projection Bombing/LASER TAG workshop is this coming Saturday, April 30th from 4 - 6 (Group 1) and 6-8 (Group 2) in the D+Arts Office in Storrs. The D+Arts room is in Storrs basically at the opposite corner of the building from the gallery. I've included a pretty hacker map, but it's well marked.

In the workshop we will learn how to install and use the LASER TAG software (so if you have a laptop, bring it along!) and test it out, and then do some projection bombing with the wonderful D+ART CART made by Samantha Buell and her crew. If you have some videos, animations, even still images, bring them along and we'll bomb something with them! :) Just so you know, I haven't yet had a chance to do a dry run of the LASER TAG software (been too busy fighting with the Eyewriter software), so this will be a true workshop in the sense that we will be trouble shooting it together... but I have every confidence in our smarts. :)

It's not required, of course, but I STRONGLY encourage you to familarizie yourself with the Projection Bombing/LASER TAG resources online BEFORE attending the workshop:
